Comments on sustainability

Different crops have different characteristics such as nutrient suitability, water demands, root growing, temperatures and vulnerability for pests and diseases. This diversity spreads the economic risk, improves the soil structure and the diversity of the soil organisms. Legumes can store nitrogen which can lead to a reduced need for mineral fertiliser.
