Cultivating maize for silage is one way of minimizing the impact of weather conditions, since maize is generally a drought-tolerant crop, which also allows for a good harvest after a dry summer. Lucerne is very resistant to dry and drought conditions. Preferably 6-7 different species could be grown in the same grasslands. For example, grassland mixtures could include timothyfor improved winter hardiness and tall fescues for drought survival.
